Cathedrals, churches and abbeys
The Priory of Saint Arnoult is one of the few remaining examples of wood and cob construction from the end of the 15th century. In the 18th century, the priory was still a dependency of the Norman abbey of Beaubec, which was almost entirely destroyed during the Revolution. The fact that the building faces East and use of the double corbelling techniques on transoms have helped to preserve the sculpted decor. The quality and finesse of the sculptures show that this is the work of a real artist. There is a plant, animal and human theme, along with Celtic, alchemist and Christian symbols.
